for beth

there is a little bit of a glare on the glass of the pix, but you get the idea..here's how we set up these pix in our living room. and i'll take pix of the ones in my room sometime next week after the rest of my pix arrive.

new furniture!

living room:

old recliner: leather, regular-sized, unheated, non-massaging, footrest broken

new recliner: microfiber, oversized, heated, massage, footrest not broken. :)

old couch: scratchy material (so we covered it with a couch cover..and it never fit right), felt like you're sitting on a rock, three seats

new couch: microfiber, comfortable..non-rock, six seats :)

old couch: nothing to complain about this couch. i loved this couch. i wish we could of kept it but it wouldn't fit anywhere. i miss it, but am glad it found a good home. :)
new couch: see above..its the same couch as the other sectional. :)

oh...and there are two storage ottomans/footstools that replaced the coffee table. we moved the coffee table in front of the other sectional. we may replace it with more ottomans at a later date.

overall video of the room

dining room:

old table: non-padded chairs starting to fall apart and wobbly table
new table: very sturdy and pretty and padded chairs
alex's room:
coming soon! i dont have any before pix because we started gutting it before i got a pic, and i dont have new pix since we got the new comforter, just the pictures of the bed and dresser right after it was assembled. i'll post it later.
my room: coming tuesday...because thats when my futon gets here..we ordered it separate.

furniture shopping

me and mom have been looking at furniture stores for a couple of weeks now since we decided that we needed new furniture. we found a dining room set the we liked and dad and alex joined us last saturday..valentines day..to make sure they liked it and to help us pick out the rest of the furniture. we all liked the dining room set right off the bat. then we looked around at couches and found a sectional that we all liked. so we put that on our list. then we went to look at recliners. then bedroom sets. then mattresses then bedroom sets again then couches again, and decided just to get two of the same couch rather than get two different ones. so we got two sectional couches, two storage ottomans that match the couches. then we got a recliner and alex found a mattress she liked to fit the bed that she liked that matched the dresser and mirror set for her room. we jumped around between different furniture a lot, but finally came to a decision. it was fun trying out all of the different chairs and beds and everything. oh. and since it was president's day....with every purchase of $50 or more, you got a free 5x7 picture of obama. haha. the frame matched my room, so i took obama out and put one of my own pictures in it. :)

alex trying out mattresses. she took several naps while we were looking at other furniture..had to make sure it would work! haha.

testing out the couch. getting really bored at this point in time..we were there for quite a while..

dad trying out a really weird recliner. who sits like this?!?

me and mom were walking around the store when we came across this...dad and alex simultaneously plopped down on different mattresses. idk why but we thought it was really funny. we're easily amuzed. anyway..i missed the video op, so i made them do it again. lol. this one was totally mocked up.

check back later for pix of the new furniture!

update

sorry its been a while since my last post, we've been super busy over here.
i still havent heard back from stoops, but alex got a car from a friend of my uncle. she got a red 2006 chevy cobalt..i'm gonna haveta post pix later because she's been gone a lot since she's had it or its been covered in snow and i dont really have many good pix of it. but anyway..after the whole stoops situation, just thinking about going to another car dealership made me wanna scream. plus, its really hard to find a reliable car for that price. so. i decided that i dont really need a new car right now, that i could continue to bum cars off of my parents or alex and that we could use the money that would have been my car to get furniture for our house. so..we got new furniture a couple of days ago..yay! we completely refurnished the living room, dining room, and alex's room and i got an storage ottoman and futon for my room. i also ordered a ton of new pix for my gallery and for our living room to fill the frames that i bought last week. pix and videos to come soon!

computer screen cleaning

thought this was super funny:

Everyone cleans the outside of their computer monitors. But, have you ever wondered how to clean the inside of the glass. It's a particularly perplexing problem, but, it's been solved. You must put your Internet page on full screen mode (that's the little box in the top right of this page). Then click on the link below. In about a minute the inside of your monitor glass will be de-gauzed, de-smudged and de-dusted (if that's a word).

Stoops Buick Plainfield

As most of you know, Alex recently totalled our car. Well, the insurance paid off the car and we decided to spend the money on two cars instead of one, so that me and Alex don't have to share a car anymore. We had a terrible experience at Stoops Buick in Plainfield over the weekend and all throughout this week. I just wrote a letter to Jeff Stoops, the owner of the dealership. Instead of spending more time blogging this, I'm just going to attach a copy of the e-mail I sent him. If you have lots of time, go ahead and try to read it. lol. Oh. and don't buy anything from Stoops Buick Plainfield. They are weasels. The one in Muncie seems okay and apparently, as I was just told, is not connected in any way. Comment and lemme know whatcha think.

Dear Mr. Stoops,

I am writing to tell you about a recent experience I had at Stoops Buick Plainfield. I am very hurt by the salespeople at this branch. They repeatedly lied to me and my family and have caused us great stress and pain. I am very displeased with the service here and think that you should know how we were treated because I feel you will lose a great deal of business because of this situation. I don’t feel like it is fair to you that your good name is going to be smeared because of these people.

I realize that this is a long letter, but I didn't want to leave anything out. Over the course of the last several days, a lot has happened and we have dealt with several people who made several excuses about what has happened. I am shocked at the whole situation and am planning on forwarding a copy of this e-mail to Rafael Sanchez from Channel 6 News. I told this to a few of your managers involved and they seem to think that you won't care if he investigates the situation. I'll wait until I hear back from you before I make a decision to let all of Indiana know how business is being dealt at your dealership. I know that you did nothing and I don't want to hurt your name or be rude to you, but I have had enough of the people in your dealership and their treatment of your "valued" customers.

I was just informed by Jim Meyers that you have been told to block calls from me and my family..even though we don't have your number. I hope that you take time to read this letter. Even if it settles nothing with our family, I would hope that it will help to prevent this from happening to other people.

On February 6, 2009, my mother and I went into Stoops Buick Plainfield looking for two dependable cars for me and my younger sister. We were met at the front doors by a saleswoman named Denise. We told her that we needed two cars and that we couldn’t spend more than $5,000 a piece. We haven’t had much luck finding a car that is dependable for that price, so we were relieved to find out that she said that she would be able to find something for us. She gave us a listing from January 31, saying that it was the most recent one that she had and that she would go inside and talk to her manager to see what they could do for us. She came back a few minutes later and showed us several cars in our price range. We were not pleased with any of the cars that she showed us, for one reason or another. We told her that and she then proceeded to tell us that there was one more car, a 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora, that was being detailed that we could come back and see later on in the day. We told her that we had to pick up my sister from school and would be back to see the Aurora. We asked her to call us to let us know when we could see it. She said that it should be done around noon, but she would give us a call and let us know for sure so we could go see it. When we left the lot, she knew that we were definitely not interested in two cars, but that we might be interested in the one car, the Aurora. She then told us that her husband works at Andy Mohr and that if we wanted to, we could go get a car from him since we would only like one car at best from Stoops.

Denise called us a while later and told me that it wouldn’t be ready until three o’clock. I then told her that my mother works from three to six and asked what time they closed. She said six and I told her that we probably would not be in until the next morning. My mother had talked to my father about the car and he had some questions about it, so my mother called Denise and talked to her on several occasions about the car. She requested that Denise send us more information and pictures via email. During one of the conversations my mother talked to Denise about the price of the car. She told her that we could spend no more than $5,000 including registration and everything. My mother said that if we couldn’t do that, then we did not want the car. Denise said that she would crunch the numbers and give her a call back. When she called back, she told my mother that we could have the car for EXACTLY $5,000.21 out the door. She said that she approved that price with her sales manager, Larry. She told Denise that we would be in that night to look at it and test drive it and that we had the cash on hand if we liked it to buy it.

During one of the many conversations that my mother, while at work, had with Denise, she was told that there was a higher offer from a guy in New York. But Denise said that they didn't want to deal with this man because of they would rather sell to local buyers because they didn't want to mess around with shipping. My father got off of work early to take me and my sister to the lot to see the car. We were worried that we wouldn’t get there in time before it closed, so we called Denise and she said she would make sure that she stayed for us. We were there within the next 15 minutes. My mother got off work a little early too and then drove there and met us shortly after we arrived.

We got to the dealership and Denise showed us the Aurora. We really liked it and she offered to let us test drive it. She gave us the keys and told us that there were no plates on it so we had to stay on the lot, but we could drive it around and make sure we liked it. She let both my father and myself test drive the car. She also tried to show us an Alero that we had previously in the day told her that we did not want because the mileage was higher than we wanted. Then she told us that the man from New York was going to buy the car and that we couldn't buy it. We had the cash in our hand down to the cent. Sometime during this conversation Denise told us that if we were to buy the Alero and the Aurora that we could take them both home that night. But we couldn't just have the one car even though that contradicts what she told us before.

You can only imagine how devastated and confused we were at this point. Only about a half an hour earlier, we were told that if we wanted the car, that it was ours and that we would leave there having paid $5,000.21 for everything. Then we got there and everything changed.

It was a real challenge for all of us to even get to the lot that night. My father got off work early to take us down there. He has back problems and doesn't go out a lot because of them. My mother just had surgery in December and is now dealing with a pinched nerve in her back and is in extreme pain. My sister got into a car accident last month. The car was totalled and we were going to buy a replacement car. Two of them. One for each of us. She is still suffering from injuries from the wreck. It was difficult for us to go that night, but we did because we need a car.

Anyway, after we were told this, my mother questioned Denise as to why she told us that we could have the car and why we rushed down to the dealership only to be told that we couldn't buy the car. During the course of this conversation, Denise made several excuses and accusations and lied to us about a conversation that she had had with us not long before we arrived. She was lying to cover up her mistake. Had she just admitted it, we wouldn't be in this situation.

We asked to talk to her manager. She took us inside and asked us to wait outside his office. She went into his office and told him that we wanted to talk to him and then came out and said he couldn't talk to us because he was busy. There was a room full of people and my mom asked if they were all customers and Denise replied that they weren't customers, but salespeople. So apparently, the customer is not the most important thing. We asked Denise if there was someone higher up than Larry that we could talk to since he was unavailable. She said that Jim Meyers was out of town and that he wouldn't be back til Monday. My mother asked if she could get your number or contact information, Mr. Stoops, but Denise said that your name was on the business but that you didn't really deal with the dealership and that it wasn't your problem to solve and that she wouldn't give us your contact information. We went back to our car and called the office to talk to Larry B., the used car sales manager. (I'm sorry I can't remember how to spell his last name and I don't remember where i put his business card. I believe it is Brunnemer.) We were directed to the wrong Larry. Then we got ahold of the right one. He said he needed to research the situation and he'd call us back in the morning.

The next day, we called the dealership around 10:30 a.m. and arrived shortly after. We were told that the car had been sold to a man in New York, who in a later conversation they gave us his full name and that he lives in Middleton. We were very upset. We assumed that Larry wouldn't sell the car until he worked out the situation. We asked to talk to Larry and he kept saying stuff like "I'll take care of you" and "We'll make this work." He offered to sell us some other cars at a loss to help resolve the situation. These cars were not nearly as nice and the price wasn't too much higher than ours that we was doing us that big of a favor. He probably would have done it anyway for anyone else. It didn't feel like he was trying very hard to resolve the situation. He told us that he would do his best to find us a car that was just as reliable for no more than $5,000 out the door. It's been several days and he hasn't even tried to contact us to let us know that he hasn't found anything and that he is still trying. You would think that with as upset as we are that he would give us that courtesy. We asked Larry if there was another lot that we could look at and he said no. We later found out that there is a Stoops in Muncie and in Anderson. We later talked to Charles at the Muncie Stoops, who was very cooperative and actually tried to help. He is a very nice man and not deceptive like the other people that we have dealt with here in Plainfield. He listened and was very considerate. Oh yeah, and while we were at the dealership, Denise and Larry were trying to tell us that the car had some problems anyway. Even though, on February 6, just the day before, we were told that the only thing wrong was the atomic clock. And Larry said after further investigation that there were other "minor and fixable problems." Did the Carfax report change? How did they find other problems after they had closed that night and hadn't been opened long that morning? I'm sorry. I just don't understand.

We left the dealership, feeling some better because Larry gave us his word he would do right by us. Around noon, we drove by and noticed that the car was still on the lot and that there was no sold sign on it and that it seemed to be still for sale, even though we were told that it was sold. We called to ask why it was still on the lot after talking to some other dealers and them telling us that it should be off or have a sold sign on it. Larry explained to us that it had been taken off the lot and that it was definitely sold.

Around a quarter after two, I got on the Stoops Buick Plainfield website to look at the cars to see if they had any other cars that we'd be interested in. I noticed that the Aurora was still on the website. I entered in my sister's contact information and requested information on the car. My other sister called the dealership because she had a question about another car and while she was on the phone she asked about the Aurora, saying she saw it on the internet. She talked to Jim and he said that the car was available for a test drive if she wanted to go to the dealership and check it out. Meanwhile, Barbara called my other sister back and offered her a test drive of the Aurora and asked when she could come down to do it. And even while this was happening, my best friend called down and was offered a test drive by Joe. During the conversation, my friend asked if there were any other offers on the car. Joe said that there weren't any on it right now, but that a family had come down the night before and offered $5,000 for it. He then laughed and said "Forget that." Like it was all a big joke. That really hurt. Here we are going through all of this and your salespeople are making fun of us and laughing about it.

All three of these people were offered test drives and were told that the car was available six hours after we were told it was sold! We called Larry again. We asked why the car was still on the website, and why none of his salespeople seemed to know that it was sold. He said that it takes 24 hours for the car to go off of the website after it is sold. Yet, at 3:45 p.m., about twenty or so minutes after we got off the phone with him, it had been taken off of the website. I then got an e-mail saying that the car had been sold. It was in all caps, which in internet language is taken as yelling. Or at least that's how I took it, because her previous e-mail and one I got today from a different address were not in all caps. But I could be reading too much into that because I was upset. My friend also got a call back from Joe apologizing and saying that the car had been sold to some guy in Illinois.

We were told in our last conversation with Larry around 3 p.m. that the Aurora was sold and that there was a signed contract...he then gave us the name and location of the buyer...and that there was money down on the car and that he would be picking the car up on February 14. I'm sorry, but I think that it is wrong to give out information like that. It would be VERY easy for us to get ahold of this man. I looked him up on the internet and found his contact information in less than 2 minutes. I wonder if he would like to know that they are giving out his information like that?

While I have been writing this, my parents have been on a conference call with Jim Meyers. He hasn't been involved in any of this yet, because he was out of town. He is back now and we left him a message this morning because I noticed while writing this letter and looking for the spelling of Larry's last name on your site, that the Aurora was back on the website..a new listing for it. It has since been taken back off. I don't understand why it keeps making an appearance on the website if it is sold. This whole situation has been so frustrating and stressful. Also on the speakerphone were Denise and Larry. I don't have all of the details of this conversation yet, but if you would like to know, I send another email with the full account from my parents. But I have been typing for a very long time now and I'm sure that you've read enough.

I realize that we have nothing in writing and that this is her word against ours, but this is how it happened. And saying otherwise is a lie. I understand that this was a misunderstanding. Denise told us the wrong thing. Had they come out and said that she made a mistake and couldn't sell the car to us for that price, then it would have been disappointing, but we wouldn'tve been angry. This whole situation was handled wrong. We were lied to numerous times and were treated very rudely. I just thought that you would like to know the kind of people that you have working for you. It was a horrible experience and we will NOT be doing business there again. Nor will anyone we know. I'm sorry that your name is going to be the one that is connected with this. I really am not trying to be mean, I am just so frustrated with this whole situation. It's been a nightmare. I'm not trying to take this out on you and I'm sorry that you have to deal with this, but we have gone through everyone else that we can talk to in your company and felt that something needed to be said to you.

Thanks so much for listening. I hope to hear back from you soon.
